Dropwatch watches the public pages of AutoTrader.ca listings and dealer lots you give us, and emails you when the asking price we can read for a vehicle falls.
What counts as a drop. We email when the asking price falls by at least $250 CAD or by at least 1% of the previous price we recorded, whichever comes first. A smaller decrease is recorded in your hub but does not send an email. We compare against the last price we successfully read, not against the price on the day you signed up.
When we check. Dealer lots are re-checked approximately once an hour, on a best-effort schedule. If a check is late, fails, or is skipped, the next one picks up the change — you will still get the email, but it may be an hour or more after the price changed. A weekday digest is sent at about 8:00 a.m. America/Toronto; there is no weekend digest.
What we tell you about. Price drops, units that newly appear on a watched lot, and units that disappear or are marked sold.
How much of a lot we read. We read up to 40 pages of a lot’s inventory per check. A lot larger than that is watched only in part, and your hub marks the lot as incomplete when this happens. We also fetch individual listing pages when a card on the inventory page is missing a price or vehicle details.
Best effort, not a feed. We parse pages published by someone else. When they change their page structure, block us, rate-limit us, or take a listing down, we may read a wrong price, no price, or nothing at all, and we may report a unit as gone when it is not. Dropwatch is a monitoring convenience, not a data feed, and must not be used as the sole basis for a pricing or purchasing decision.
/offers/, /annonces/) watch that unit. Search pages (/cars/, /autos/) watch the lowest asking price on that results page (SERP min-price), not a single SKU. Search watches are shopper-only./dealers/, /concessionnaires/, or /cars/ / /autos/ pinned to one dealer) or any listing (/offers/, /annonces/) from that lot — we resolve it to the whole stock. A private-seller ad or a generic Search SERP is not accepted on the dealer plan.The dealer plan is sold to businesses for business purposes. By subscribing you confirm you are buying on behalf of a business, for use in that business, and not as a consumer. Consumer-protection statutes that apply to consumer agreements — including Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act, 2002 — do not apply to the dealer plan.
The $29 CAD shopper watch may be bought by an individual for personal use. Nothing in these Terms limits any right you have under applicable consumer-protection law, and where a term of these Terms conflicts with a right you have under that law as a consumer, that law prevails.
Submit only autotrader.ca URLs you have a legitimate business or personal interest in monitoring. Do not resell, redistribute, or publish the data Dropwatch shows you, and do not use it to compile or sell a database of another business’s inventory. Do not attempt to use Dropwatch to reach pages other than the ones described in “What Dropwatch does”, and do not attempt to circumvent the per-lot limits.
Dropwatch shows the year, make, model, trim, asking price and listing link for vehicles on the lots you watch. We do not show or store copies of listing photographs, and we do not show vehicle identification numbers for vehicles on someone else’s lot.
Vehicle listings, photographs, descriptions and vehicle identification numbers belong to the dealers who listed them or to the operator of the site they were published on. Dropwatch shows a limited amount of that information to identify a vehicle you asked us to watch, and claims no rights in it.
AutoTrader and AutoHebdo are trademarks of Trader Corporation. Dropwatch uses those names only to identify the websites it monitors and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Trader Corporation.
Takedown and complaints. If you believe content shown in Dropwatch infringes your rights, or you want your lot’s data removed, email abuse@dropwatch.ca with the URL and what you want removed. We answer within five business days and will remove the content or stop watching the lot.
We parse publicly available listing data. Prices may be delayed, incorrect, or unavailable if AutoTrader.ca changes their site. We do not guarantee every price change will be detected or that listings remain available. There is no uptime commitment: maintenance and changes at the sites we read may interrupt the service, and we may pause watching a lot when the site we read blocks us.
Dealer plan ($79 CAD/month). New subscriptions start with a 14-day free trial. A card is required to start it, and nothing is charged during the trial: cancel before it ends and you are not billed at all. If no usable card is on file when the trial ends, the subscription is cancelled rather than invoiced. After the trial, $79 CAD is billed monthly. Cancel any time from the Billing button on your hub, which opens the Stripe customer portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the month you have already paid for: we do not bill you again and we do not refund part of a month. Within 7 days of your first payment, email support@dropwatch.ca and we refund that first month in full. Prices are in Canadian dollars, Stripe is the payment processor, and the subscription renews automatically until it is cancelled.
Shopper watch ($29 CAD, 90 days). You can stop alerts any time from your dashboard, and resume them until the 90 days are up. Within 7 days of payment, email support@dropwatch.ca for a full refund. After 7 days the $29 is not refundable.
If the service fails to activate after payment, we refund in full whenever you tell us.
Prices in CAD. No GST/HST is charged — Dropwatch is a small supplier under CRA rules.
You may cancel at any time — the shopper watch from your dashboard link, the dealer plan through the Stripe customer portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period.
We may suspend or terminate your access, on notice to the email address on file, if you breach these Terms, if payment fails, or if the site we monitor blocks access to a lot you have added and we cannot restore it. If we terminate for a reason other than your breach, we refund the unused portion of the current period on a pro-rata basis.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Dropwatch is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We are not liable for purchase or pricing decisions you make based on price alerts. We are not affiliated with AutoTrader.ca.
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost margin, lost business opportunity, or loss of data, however caused and on any theory of liability, even if we have been advised of the possibility.
Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to Dropwatch, in contract, tort or otherwise, is limited to the fees you actually paid us in the three months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for fraud, and nothing in it limits any right you have as a consumer under applicable consumer-protection law.
We may change these Terms. We will post the change here with a new “Last updated” date. If the change materially reduces the service or increases what you pay, we will email the address on file at least 30 days before it takes effect, and you may cancel before then for a pro-rata refund of the unused period. Continuing to use Dropwatch after a change takes effect means you accept it.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction, and each party submits to that jurisdiction. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
